Requirements For Becoming a KidsSafe Certified Facility

Return To Main Page

To be a KidsSafe Certified Facility means that you’ve performed the appropriate background checks on staff who come into direct contact with children.

At any time children are present within the facility, at least one individual who has passed the comprehensive KidsSafe background check must be directly supervising the children present.

The comprehensive KidsSafe background check includes:

  • National Record Indicator With Sex Offender Registry
  • Statewide Criminal Record
  • County Criminal Record — Seven Year
  • Nationwide Federal Criminal Search
  • U.S. Patriot Act
  • Social Security Alert
  • Residence History Report
  • Motor Vehicle Report
  • LabCorp 10 Panel Urinalysis

For example, for most facilities this means the owner/manager and at least one other individual has been screened with this check.

Again, the requirement is that, whenever children are present within the facility, one individual who has passed the comprehensive KidsSafe background check must be directly supervising the children present.

In addition, all instructors and other full-time staff must have completed the basic KidsSafe background check, consisting of National Record Indicator w/ Sex Offender Registry, 7 Year County Criminal, Social Security Alert and Residence History Report)

Once a facility meets all of these requirements, we will send you a KidsSafe decal in various formats (PDF for printing, jpeg for inclusion on your website).
