Since 1990 I’ve certified thousands of professionals (police, corrections, military) to use firearms as Firearm Safety Instructors — but I’ve been frustrated with how this weapon is often treated as a toy by the general public.
Many people believe that owning and operating a firearm is as simple as pointing the weapon and pulling the trigger.
I can tell you from over 20 years of experience, THAT’S JUST NOT TRUE!
For a firearm to be effective, you must know how to safely carry and correctly use it – and then, most importantly, have the right expectations for its effects on the attacker and yourself. The bad guys don’t always go down like in the movies, and you need to be able to justify your actions in court.
When a firearm is used, it is a life-or-death situation – and that’s NOT the time to “figure it out.”
So, that’s why I decided to develop an ongoing series of Firearm Safety Tips and put up this web page so people could access them from one place.
Whether you already carry a firearm or are purchasing one for the first time, you should access these tips — so, when your life is at stake, you don’t end up using what I call the “spray and pray” technique. That NEVER works!
